The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed viral claims that Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye,” was denied her Certificate of National Service for criticising President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement on Sunday, the NYSC described the allegation as false and unfounded, explaining that the delay in issuing her certificate was purely procedural.
Raye, with service code LA/24B/8325, went viral earlier this year after posting a TikTok video in which she described Lagos as “smelling” and criticised the Tinubu government. The video sparked backlash, prompting her to issue a public apology.
Her situation drew sympathy from figures such as former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and activist Omoyele Sowore, who alleged that the delay was politically motivated. The NYSC, however, insisted that politics played no role in the matter.
