Human rights activist and psychologist, Comrade Israel Joe, has slammed Nollywood actor Jim Iyke for allegedly demonizing single mothers.
During a recent interview with a Ghanaian radio station, Jim Iyke reportedly claimed that single mothers are incapable of raising boys into “proper men.”
Reacting in a Facebook post on Tuesday, Joe described the actor as an “irresponsible, over-aged bachelor” who lacks the moral authority to question the ability of single mothers to raise responsible male children.
He further argued that Iyke is no better than former U.S. President Barack Obama, who was successfully raised by a single mother.
“So, Jim Iyke is now better than Barack Obama, who was raised by a single mother?” Joe asked rhetorically.
He continued:
“Sometimes people just speak from a place of limited, one-sided experience, forcing the world to conform to their narrow views. You can interrogate the concept of single motherhood without demonizing single mothers, as though they are less human. While I agree that we should avoid glorifying single motherhood, we must equally condemn irresponsible fatherhood. Some single motherhood cases stem from mistakes or ignorance, others are deliberate, and some are purely situational.”
Joe stressed that Jim Iyke, as an unmarried man, should not dismiss the role of single mothers in raising responsible children.
“Being unmarried himself, does that mean Jim Iyke’s situation is also linked to single motherhood? Perhaps he spoke out of context, but either way, such comments are shallow. As a psychologist, I believe social issues should be examined holistically, not through a biased and lopsided lens,” he concluded.
