Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has set up an 11-member panel to investigate the alleged sale of the Nigerian Meat and Allied Products (NIMAP) Abattoir during the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The abattoir, located in the Chalawa Industrial Area, was established under Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to generate revenue and create jobs.
Speaking at the inauguration on Wednesday at the Cabinet Office, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Umar Faruq Ibrahim said the inquiry is aimed at holding the previous administration accountable. “The present administration has the responsibility to protect critical state infrastructure illegally auctioned for selfish interest,” he stated.
The panel is chaired by former State Anti-Corruption Agency head, Barrister Muhuyi Magagi Rimin-Gado. Its mandate includes reviewing all documents, agreements, and approvals relating to the sale, assessing compliance with due process, identifying individuals or institutions involved, and recovering lost public funds or assets. It is also tasked with recommending legal or administrative actions against those found culpable and suggesting measures to prevent future occurrences. Additionally, the committee is to propose steps toward establishing a modern meat processing plant that meets international standards.
Rimin-Gado pledged that the committee would carry out its duties diligently and impartially.
Other members of the panel include Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, Magajin Garin Kano Alhaji Nasiru Inuwa Wada, Special Adviser on Constitutional Matters Barrister Aminu Hussain, Muhammad Yusuf Danduwa, Barrister Hamza Nuhu Dantani, Alhaji Muhammad Aminu Inuwa, Barrister Amina Umar Garba, and Barrister Bashir Sabiu. Abdulkadir Shehu from the Office of the Head of Civil Service will serve as secretary.
The committee has three weeks to submit its report.
