Baltasar Ebang Engonga, a senior government official in Equatorial Guinea, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for embezzlement.
According to Vanguard, Engonga, the former head of the national financial investigation agency, was found guilty of diverting hundreds of thousands of dollars in travel funds for personal use. Five other top officials were also implicated in the case.
The controversy deepened last year after multiple sex tapes surfaced online showing Engonga with the wives of fellow officials, some reportedly filmed inside his finance ministry office. The leaks went viral, inspiring memes, parodies, songs, and even a spoof product dubbed “Balthazariem,” marketed as a fake virility drug in his name.
The Bioko provincial tribunal sentenced him to prison and ordered him to pay a $220,000 fine.
