Manchester United icon Ashley Young and his son, Tyler Young, are on the verge of making Championship history as the first father-son duo to share the pitch.
The milestone almost happened last season in the FA Cup, when Tyler’s Peterborough side faced Everton, where Ashley was playing. However, Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson didn’t bring Tyler on, denying them the chance to become the first father and son to play against each other in the competition’s 154-year history.
Now, the opportunity has resurfaced, with Tyler linking up with his father at Portman Road after the 40-year-old midfielder signed for Ipswich Town in July.
Before the move, Tyler developed his game in the academies of Arsenal, MK Dons, and QPR, eventually joining Peterborough in August 2024. He made one senior outing in the EFL Trophy and featured on the bench across League One, the FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup.
Notably, he was named among the substitutes in January’s FA Cup third-round clash at Goodison Park, sparking headlines about a potential face-off with his father, who was on the Everton bench.
