Businessman Isaac Fayose has dismissed the notion that Nigeria belongs to the three dominant tribes — Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba — describing it as misleading.
He argued that this claim is false because, since the return of democracy in 1999, no Igbo person has ever been allowed to occupy the position of President or Vice President. According to him, only the Hausa and Yoruba have had the opportunity to hold the nation’s highest offices.
Fayose said:
“They keep saying Nigeria belongs to the Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba. But since 1999, when democracy returned, no Igbo man has been allowed to become President. They always push them aside, telling them to ‘go back to your village.’ They talk about wanting to leave, but they are not allowed to. And if they mention Biafra, it is treated as a forbidden word.
“How can you claim Nigeria is for Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba when, since 1999, no Igbo has been President or Vice President? Yet you call it Wazobia, a united Nigeria? Wazobia kor, Wazobia ni.”
He further noted that Peter Obi, an Igbo candidate who ran for President in the last election and won massive support, was allegedly rigged out.
