Three Nigerian nationals have been handed a combined 96-year prison sentence in Ghana for their involvement in a series of vehicle thefts across the Kumasi Metropolis.
The Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Godwin Ahianyo, confirmed the convictions in a statement on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
The convicts — Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze — were arrested on June 20, 2025, and arraigned before different circuit courts in Kumasi.
Ekenze, who pleaded guilty at his first appearance before the Atasemanso Circuit Court, received a 10-year sentence with hard labour. Friday and Agwazie, who initially pleaded not guilty, were later convicted at Circuit Court 3 and each sentenced to 8 years on two counts, with the terms running concurrently
Further proceedings at Circuit Court 1 saw all three men receive an additional 20-year concurrent sentence on two counts, while Ekenze was again convicted at Circuit Court 2 and handed another 10-year concurrent term.
The trio are currently serving their sentences at Kumasi Central Prison. Police said the convictions underscore their commitment to tackling organised and transnational crime, urging the public to support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities.
