A tragic incident occurred in Pulka, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, when a grenade explosion killed three young children—Fati Dahiru, Aisha Ibrahim, and Fati Yakubu.
According to Buba Yaga, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), the children had unknowingly been playing with a grenade believed to have been left behind by Boko Haram insurgents. The device detonated around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
In response, a joint team comprising Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD-CBRN) units, troops from Operation Hadin Kai, CJTF personnel, and local hunters secured the scene and conducted a thorough search for additional explosive devices. None were found, and the area was later declared safe.
The injured children were rushed to the General Hospital in Gwoza, where they were confirmed dead by medical staff.
Their remains have been handed over to their families for burial according to Islamic customs.
Security authorities have called on the public to report any suspicious objects immediately to avoid further incidents of this nature.
