The Lagos State Government has directed all hospitality industry operators, including hotels, event centres, and nightclubs, to obtain approvals from the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to ensure proper parking and traffic control.

The directive was announced in a joint statement signed by LASPA General Manager Adebisi Adelabu and LASTMA General Manager Bakare-Oki Olalekan after a meeting at the Parking Authority office on Thursday, August 7.

According to the statement, the move aims to tackle persistent problems of indiscriminate parking and traffic congestion often linked to hospitality establishments in the state.

Business owners are required to register and secure approvals from both agencies in line with the state’s parking and traffic regulations. Non-compliance, the statement warned, will lead to prosecution under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

Both agencies, under the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, reaffirmed their commitment to working together to reduce traffic congestion and promote a safer, more orderly road environment.

While LASPA regulates and manages parking across the state, LASTMA is tasked with traffic control and enforcement. The statement noted that although the agencies have distinct responsibilities, their collaboration is crucial to executing the government’s transportation and traffic management strategy effectively.
