Veteran Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola, has reflected on the transformation of the movie industry over the years.
In a recent interview, she noted that unlike in the past, Nollywood today places more emphasis on physical appearance than on passion for the craft.
According to her, when she and her colleagues began their careers, actors were motivated by sheer hunger and passion, not money or glamour. She recalled how they often worked tirelessly through the night, without pay or even food, simply to tell meaningful stories.
Akintola highlighted that industry legends like Joke Silva and Shola Sobowale also shared this same drive, valuing the art of acting above personal comfort.
She lamented that things have now changed, with many actors prioritising makeup, outfits, and appearance, with some even resorting to BBL procedures.
“The passion is gone… it’s now about looks, not content,” she remarked, emphasizing that beauty will eventually fade, but genuine artistry endures.
