The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that 10 people lost their lives in two separate fatal accidents along the Ozalla/4-Corner stretch of the Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway, with another 10 victims injured and hospitalized.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, explained that the first crash occurred around 9 a.m. on the Enugu inward-bound lane.
According to him, a Howo truck carrying bags of cement from Aba to Abuja collided with a Toyota Corolla attempting to overtake another truck. A Foton bus and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus, both driving against traffic, were also caught in the collision.
“The truck head and the Toyota Corolla went up in flames, with five occupants of the car burnt to death. A passenger in the mini bus was also confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” he stated.
The second accident, which happened around 3 p.m. the same day, involved a Sino truck and a tricycle.
Ndukwe said the truck, also laden with cement and driving one-way from Garriki Enugu to Nenwe in Aninri LGA, rammed into the tricycle, killing all four of its occupants. Though they were rushed to the hospital, they were later confirmed dead.
He added that 10 other victims from both incidents are currently receiving treatment.
